Green Home Tour
I went on a green home tour today. It was a self-guided tour where you went around to the various houses that had been built or remodeled using green practices. Most of the houses were occupied but the owners opened them up for this tour and they had people there to talk about the various green elements used. It got me excited to start pursuing that route again. I've been a bit distracted lately trying to get my head around having my own business but don't want to lose sight of whay I really want to do with it. I met an architect at one of the houses whom I had seen speak at the green building course and she mentioned that they were looking for an engineer who was more open to sustainable design. So I left my card and we'll see what happens.
This woman's firm actually does some very interesting things using recycled material. The house I saw today had a railing overlooking the stairs that was made of two rear hatchback doors from Volvo station wagons. The deck railing as well as the benches outside were made of Datsun truck tailgates and the awnings over the windows were hatchback windows that looked like they were from my old RX-7. I thought it was a very cool idea and didn't look at all tacky.
